Golf
The 1958 season found St. Ambrose golfers undertaking one of the
toughest schedules in recent years. Top opponents on the nine-match sched-
ule included such notables as the University of Wisconsin, Western Illinois
University and Loras. It was the first year for an Ambrose-Big Ten golf
match, with the schedule including two triangular meets on the home links.
Lettermen returning to Coach Bob Duax's team were George Stahl, Junior
from Keokuk, Iowa; Jim Durand, Junior from Riverside, Illinois; and Tom
Murray, Senior from Rock Island, Illinois. Supplemented with several out-
standing freshmen, the Bee linksmen looked forward to a fine season on
the greens.

Track
Forty members composed the St. Ambrose track team this spring. In-
cluded in the group were 10 lettermen returning from last year's squad that
split a pair of dual meets and placed second in two triangular contests.
Top lettermen returning were: Charles Argenta, pole vaulter; Bill Bohler,
shot and discus; Bob Varley, broad jumper and hurdler; and Phil Petta,
distance runner.
Other letter winners were: Tom Belezos, Jack Briggs, Greg Fasano, Phil
McGrath, Bob Strayer, and Bob Webb.
With additional depth of freshmen, and the wealth of returning letter-
men, Coach Leo Kilfoy looked forward to one of the finest seasons in many
years for the Bees.
