The Iowa conference championship. That carries with it a large
amount of glory.
St. Ambrose started the week
out right by vanquishing Lewis
college, 28 to 20, Sunday afternoon at the Davenport Muny stadium. At Quincy Coach Wally
Fromhart and his Loras Duhawks
took the measure of Quincy college, 22 to 7.
The Bees and Loras met once
this season, and the Davenporters
took the measure of the Duhawks,
30 to 13. Quite naturally the latter
team has the revenge motif in its
heart.
FAST START.
Three touchdowns in the first
half gave the Bees a sufficient
margin to coast home during the
remaining 30 minutes Sunday afternoon.
Joe Dhondt, senior from Moline,
accounted for two of the Blue and
White scores by snagging passes
from Don Berg and Tom Greenan.
Starring for Lewis was Quarterback Frank Neidenbach who
chalked up two touchdowns and
passed for the other.
For the season the locals now
have an 11-1 record.
Lewis left town with a 3-4 total
on their ledgers.
All three Flyer scores resulted
from a blocked punt, a fake that
did not pan out and a fumble.
The absence of two key players
prevented the locals from being in
number one shape for the tussle.

Coach Larry Mullins and his St.
Ambrose Bees will meet Loras
college Friday afternoon at Dubuque.
The prize?
OUT OF ACTION.
Dick Forbes missed his first
game of the season because of a
damaged knee. Forbes will be sidelined indefinitely.
A hard tackle forced the turf
tearing Texan, Pat Carroll, from
the fray after five minutes of
action.
An 18-yard run off a delayed
buck by Bee fullback Ray Shannon climaxed a 58-yard drive. Tim
Madden converted.
Touchdown number two for the
Ambrose eleven came via the air.
The drive started on the Blue and
Whito 42. Berg passed to Dhondt
from the Flyer 32 with nine and
a half minutes to go in the second
period. Madden applied his toe to
the ball, and his boot was true.
A minute and a half later
Dhondt was once more on the receiving end of a Greenan 16-yard
pass in the end zone. Art Michalik
started the scoring play by jumping on a Lewis fumble on their 16-
yard marker. Madden converted.
Lewis started rolling during the
third quarter.
PASS DOES IT.
Attempting to punt on his 32,
Berg's boot was blocked by Flyer
guard, Ted Jaroscz. Niedenbach
passed to Joe DuSell for 17 yards
and a touchdown. Tony Del Gen-
io's aim was good for the conversion.
The Bee forward wall failed to
hold as Berg attempted to fake a
punt on fourth down. Berg was
smeared on the Ambrose 40. Niedenbach crossed the goal line from
the one yard line. Del Genio converted.
A Blue and White fumble was
recovered by Lewis on their own
47. With the ball resting on the
Ambrose three yard line, the Flyers had made a first down. On the
fourth try Niedenbach went over
