The Bees of St. Ambrose college are now the ranking football
team in the state of Iowa.
Every Blue and White gridman
fought in the* one-sided battle
which saw the state's only undefeated eleven, Parsons college, bite
the dust of the Municipal stadium
Thursday afternoon after being
gunned down, 48-20.
Besides racking up their third
consecutive victory, the locals won
the Southern division of the Iowa
conference, and thereby earned
the right to play their arch-rivals,
Loras college, for the conference
championship on Nov. 17 in Dubuque.
The triumph gave the Bees their
19th win against only one defeat
extending back to the end of the
'48 season.
TACKLE QUINCY.
In the '50 record book, Coach
Larry "Moon" Mullins and his
boys have conquered nine opponents, and have been bested once.
A Parson's winning skein was
stopped at six conference victories.
Next on the list for the Bees is
an encounter scheduled with
Quincy college Sundav afternoon
in the stadium.
Seven days of practice paid off
in large dividends for the Blue
c ;id White. Not only did they run
up their highest score of the season, but they also shattered any
previous '50 ground gaining record by rushing a total of 311 yards.
Defensively the Bees showed
that they could not be pushed
around. The seven man line which
Mullins employed yielded only 55
yards during the skirmish to the
Fairfield crew.
The Bees drew first blood on a
pass play from Art Nixon to Ed
Scheck that covered 34 yards.

Later in the same quarter, Nixon
took the ball on a pitch-out and
scooted around end for five yards
and another score.
Ambrose did not score again
until the second stanza- when Paul
Gebhardt bucked over from the
one-yard line after a pass interception set up the scoring drive.
Tim Madden missed his only conversion in seven tries on this score.

I SCORE QUICKLY.
Parsons tried to fight back and
started a drive of its own that
penetrated Ambrose territory. The
Wildcats were seemingly stopped
cold and Ambrose had another
touchdown on a 90-yard pass interception return by Tom Greenan
but penalties nullified the play
and moved the ball to the one-
yard line where Delpierre crashed
over.
The next two St. Ambrose
touchdowns came within 45 seconds of each other with less than
three minutes to go in the half.
Nixon galloped 20-yards around
end for one score and several
plays later, Gebhardt threw to Les
in the end zone.
Matera bootlegged a second half
score and Larry Ketza hauled in
a pass for another tally.
Harry Jager, a Davenport alumnus, scampered 46-yards with a
pass for the second Wildcat touchdown and Lawson's interception
runback completed the losers'
scoring.
