In the traditional battle for the Bell
St. Ambrose pounded out another victory in the waning minutes of the
game ... it was also the Loras Home
coming
The entire game was an uphill
battle for St. Ambrose with the clutch
passing of quarterback Bob Webb saving the Bees from defeat. Defense
was the keynote of success for St.
Ambrose . . . the Duhawks were held
to 21 yards rushing and 66 passing
... a pass interception by Jack Laugh-
lin stopped a threatening drive by
Loras late in the fourth quarter.
The Bees trailed 6-0 at the half . . .
but mid-way in the third period the
Ambrosians drove for a touchdown
and 7-6 lead . . . only to lose it by
virtue of a Duhawks safety. With less
than three minutes remaining, a Webb
to Nestor* pass was good for 50 yards
and a touchdown, giving St. Ambrose
the game and the bell.
