Mighty DePaul U. had a bundle of trouble before caging the
Bees, 82-71. The Duax press kept the Iowans in the contest
all the way, with the Demons holding a 37-36 lead at the intermission. However, All-American guard, Jim Lamkin's 21
point production in the second half spearheaded the DPU
drive to victory. Lampkin hit for 30 and Fay pumped in 23
to top the scoring column. Coach Ray Meyer used only seven
men against the underdog Ambrose five, which shows the tightness of the game.
The first home game turned out to be the initial win also as
Lewis suffered a 73-57 beating. Fay captured scoring laurels
with 21 points and Bob Cannady had one less. The Blue and
White then split a two game road trip, losing to St. Joe, 59-52,
but coming back to nose out Lewis 73-72. The final two points
