Macomb, III. — St. Ambrose college,
attempting to even its season record at
3-3, bashed into the red-hot Western Illinois Leathernecks at Macomb with anything but success. The final score looked
something like the nightmare it was: 46-0, Western.
A 26-point final period by the hosts
wasn't necessary, but the Leathernecks
could hardly do otherwise considering the
state of mind the Bees were in when the
final period opened with them in arrears
at 20-0.
Western was held to lone touchdowns
in each of the first three periods, but the
Ambrose attack during those same quarters was little more than futile save for
an opening advance to the Western 15-
yard line in the first minutes. The half-
time score was 13-0.
Four of the seven TD's scored by Western came through the air lanes, with quarterback Bill Baltzell doing the pitching on
two of them. Longest run was a 71-yard
punt return by Jack Liljgberg, good for
one of the fourth-period touchdowns.
Bob Durnin is halted after short gain around left
end in closing minutes of the Homecoming game.
