Rensselaer, Ind. — Scoring single touchdowns in each period, St. Ambrose college experienced little difficulty in moving
past outgunned St. Joseph's, 24 to 6. Bob Durnin paced the
St. Ambrose attack with a touchdown and 104 net yards gained
by rushing.
Halfback Dean Brady put the Bees out front to stay in the
opening quarter when he circled right end on a 30-yard touchdown sweep that capped an 87-yard drive by the visitors. The
clincher came in the next period when the Ambrosians staged
an 85-yard march ending on a 13-yard dash by Ray Shannon.
A 52-yard pass from Brady to Shannon set the stage for the
marker.
The teams traded 6-pointers in the third frame, with the Bees
scoring first on a 16-yard dash by Durnin. St. Joe then connected on a 79-yard pass play to register its lone TD.
Durnin set up the Bees' parting shot when he circled 53
yards to the St. Joe three on the first play of the final canto.
Jim Dorsey smacked over on the next play. St. Ambrose netted
a total of 417 yards by rushing during the contest.
