Saginaw, Mich. — Saginaw's 1952 Red Feather Drive took the proceeds from St. Ambrose
College's season opener, but Central Michigan accepted a 3-touchdown handout from the Bees
in a wild second quarter to eventually fashion a 38-14 triumph over the Davenporters.
St. Ambrose managed its opening touchdown in that fatal second period on a 50-yard pass
from quarterback Tom Donohue to end Jarv Walz. But Central's Don Kolebar ran and passed
for a pair of TD's in the same frame, and halfback Vern Hawes added a 91-yard jaunt to pay-
dirt to his 15-yard scramble in the opening quarter to run the count to 24-7 at the half.
Tom Greenan added a dying gasp for the Bees in the final quarter by plunging over from
one yard out following a 21-yard drive. Tim Madden added both extra points for St. Ambrose.
The game was played before about 8,000 fans at Arthur Hill Memorial stadium in Saginaw,
the home town of Frank Brogger, the Bees' head grid coach. The Davenporters made the long
trip to Saginaw by plane, with the Red Feather Drive footing the expenses.
