EDUCATION CLUB

"Talk to stimulate thought", sums up the
program of the Education Club for the past
year. Officers of the club used every means
they could to stir up the members and introduce them to the problems of the teaching
profession.
The major event of the year was the Regional Meeting of the Iowa Future Teachers
Association to which the club and St. Ambrose
College played host. Over 250 prospective
teachers attended and participated in discussions concerning the difficulties young teachers
must face and also the standard problems the
profession has always had to meet. The IFTA
chapter on the St. Ambrose campus was greatly
satisfied with its first efforts as hosts and appreciated very much the help given by other
clubs.
When Father J. Ryan Beiser, chairman of
the St. Ambrose history department, headed the
forum, "What is Democracy?" in another of the
club's interesting projects, it was not expected
that such a heated discussion would develop.
But the forum did incite the leaders to a very
fiery demonstration and indicated that the future of the Education Club as an academic
force will be great.
The second semester followed the same
program as the first with an address and a convention scheduled. Mr. Lloyd Bowie, head of
the placement bureau, spoke before the group,
dwelling principally on the very important topic
of landing a job. In early March a contingent
of members represented the club at the IFTA
conference at Cornell College, Mount Vernon,
Iowa.
