The Mathematics Club
This club, perhaps the youngest organization of its type at St. Ambrose, was established in the fall
of 1960 under the guidance of Fr. J.A. Hratz, chairman of the Mathematics department.
Although club membership is not restricted, it is primarily made up of students majoring or minor-
ing in mathematics. The club is designed to supplement the mathematics courses of these students, as well
as introduce them to new mathematical ideas and possible future professions.
In order to realize these goals, the organization has entered into national competition, has attended
lectures and symposiums at other institutions, and has had various topics presented by speakers here at
St. Ambrose.
This past year the Mathematics Club was headed by these officers: Eldon Boes, president; Charles
Gibbons, vice-president; and John Nagy, secretary-treasurer. These officers, as well as the other club members, are grateful to Fr. Hratz, the club moderator, and Mr. Hutchinson and Mr. Logan, mathematics
instructors, for their assistance and guidance this past year.
