The fable of the stork and the fox. (Bottom): Once upon a time a stork and a fox, having gained a reputation for bull-headed enmity, decided to pull a series of get-together luncheons to show the public their kindly spirits. There upon the stork with great show of magnanimity invited the fox to dinner served in a long-necked urn where there was only room for his long bill to reach the savory viands; the fox, not to be outdone in generous hospitality, invited the stork to participate in a return benefit tea party which was served in a shallow saucer, in which the stork could only dip the end of his bill; whereupon each with a great air of injured innocence pointed to the ingratitude of the other; moral: we'll never get anywhere this way.
