Runners in the Men's Invitational One Mile Run take off after the starting pistol is fired. Clyde Colenso of Dallas, Texas won the event with a time of 3:49.71.
University class pole vault champion, Fred Hansen of Rice prepares for his vault. Hansen won the event in 1962 with a vault of 15' 3.5". In 1963 Hansen set a Drake Relays record with a vault of 15' 7.25".
Ed Red of Rice competes in the Javelin Throw. Red won the event with a distance of 226'5". Red went on to compete in the Javelin at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo.
Rice University pulls ahead of the University of Missouri for the win in the One-Mile Relay with a time of 3:16.4. Members of the Rice University team were Jim Hoff, Tom Cox, Otha Byrd and Art Brown.
Mac Umstattd of the University of Texas anchors the Sprint Medley Relay. Texas won with a time of 3:23.2, a new Drake Relays, American collegiate, and American record. Other team members were Morris Barefield, Billy Seay and Fred Ramsdell.
At the 1936 Drake Relays Alton Terry of Hardin-Simmons University threw his javelin 222 feet, 7 3/4 inches for a new Drake Relays and American record in the Javelin.
