Description

The St. Ambrose Alumni Association
IN JUNE, 1914, the St. Ambrose College Alumi Association held its
first meeting. Officers of the society were elected as follows:
Rev. C. J. Donohue, President; Mr. J. H. Crosby, Judge M. F.
Donegan, and Mr. H. J. McFarland, Vice Presidents; Rev. U. A.
Hauber, Secretary and Treasurer. Accounts of the organization
of this society, and also the details of the first reunion, were
given in last year's Ambrosian.
On June 21 last year the second annual reunion was held. During the day
the "old students" visited the college, and the college halls and the campus were
scenes of pleasant recollective conversations. (This informal reunion is, after all,
the best part of our gathering, and will form an important place in the program
of future meetings.) In the evening, the members assembled at the new Black-
hawk Hotel for the business meeting. The committee on constitution and bylaws tendered their work, which, with but few trivial changes, was adopted. It
was then suggested that the members of the Alumni should encourage religious
vocations and establish a fund for those desiring to enter the priesthood and not
having the necessary funds. A committee, for the purpose of furthering this
movement, was appointed and will report at the next meeting in 1916. The officers
chosen in 1914 were reelected to office and after the election came the sumptuous
banquet, with its usual toast program; the second annual meeting then came to a
close.
It is our wish to express our most sincere appreciation of the earnest work
already done by the alumni association members. Christian training is a factor
in education almost entirely neglected in this modern age of materialism; the
Alumni Association encourages this true education and solicits the patronage of
our Alma Mater, where real Christian training is given. By next term, a spacious
new addition will have been erected, and we feel certain the Alumni will do their
part in making next year a record one for attendance. May the students, who
have not, as yet, attended these grand reunions, forget their business cares, at
least for one day, and come to the next meeting. May they come with a reawakened college spirit and meet old friends and classmates; if they do, we can safely
guarantee that they will never wilfully miss another reunion.
