Description
BLACK STUDENT UNION
Front Row: Al Fountain, vice president, Hope Williams, president, Annette Hayslett, treasurer, and Olivia
Holmes. Back Row: Edward Howard, Pat Simmons, and Deborah
Graves.
The 1976 school year saw the Black Student Union
establish itself as an industrious, enthusiastic organization
at St. Ambrose College. Although previously established,
this year's B.S.U. has been active in gaining notice and
participation from all S.A.C. students. B.S.U. happenings
included "Halloween Set," "The B.S.U. Basketball
Tournament," and "Black Excellence" weekend, in which
proceeds were contributed to the minority scholarship
fund.
The purpose of the B.S.U. is to establish a representative
body of Black students to insure the Black community of
St. Ambrose College, its right to determine its destiny, to
guarantee a voice in decisions that effect them, and to
foster Black culture, which educates the community in
the history, philosophy and psychology of the Black race.
