With the closing of the first season under L. G. Friedrichs, the Bees gave evidence of greater things
to come. He will lose only one man from the team that won 6 and lost 3 against tough competition.
Among the returning veterans will be the co-captains for next season, Gene "Buzz" Walton and Clint
Westemeyer. Gene, a hard hitting fullback, had his best game of the season against St. Norbert when
he personally accounted for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Clint is a six-foot-three end who is outstanding on both offense and defense. He was hampered early in the season with injuries but came on
strong in the late rgames to prove his worth.
Also returning are John "Smokey" Michalski, rugged end from Saginaw, Michigan and alert hardhitting Roy Owens. Both of these men were named to the first team in the La Crosse Tribune selection of an All-Catholic midwest team.
Bob Webb, also received honors, being named to the little All-American Catholic team selected by
the Brooklyn Tablet. Bob ended the season, third in the nation for passing by a small college player.
His coolness under fire was demonstrated many times as he brought the team from behind with his
fine passing.
If any outstanding feature can be spoken of as regards this years team, it was its spirit and determination that enabled it to come from behind as they did so many times this year. In the years to
come this should prove a vital factor in their endeavors.
