BERT L. HALLIGAN
Perhaps no one of our Alumni has risen more rapidly in the ranks of the business
world than Bert L. Halligan. The success which he has attained in thirteen years of
business bears witness to this fact.
Mr. Halligan was graduated from the Academic Department of St. Ambrose in
1905. He finished his college course at St. Mary's College, St. Mary's, Kansas, in
1909. In the same year he became associated with the Washburn-Halligan Coffee
Company. A few years later he and his brother Eugene, also an Alumnus of St.
Ambrose, purchased the coffee company which now bears their name. Of this company, Bert is Vice-President and General Manager. Desirous of extending his business activities Bert became interested in the Halligan Candy Company, of which organization he is now the President.
One of the greatest testimonials of his success is his army record. Bert entered the
service in May, 1917. He rose rapidly from the ranks to the non-commissioned offices,
being appointed sergeant within four days after he had entered the service. Later he
was sent to an Officers' Training School. Upon the completion of his course he was
given a commission of First Lieutenant. He discharged his duties so well that he was
commissioned Captain by the War Department. It was in this capacity that he was
serving when honorably discharged in April, 1919.
The army record of Bert Halligan did not cease with his discharge. For the past
two years he has been a member of the State Executive Committee of the American
Legion. He is also very active in the Davenport Post, now holding the office of Post
Commander.
Mr. Halligan is a prominent member of Loras Council, Knights of Columbus, and
active in church and social functions.
We congratulate Bert on his many successes, and wish him "new and greater worlds
to conquer"!
