JIM WOLF, forward-center
toss with fifteen seconds to go to break a 78-78 tie and Dan Garvey
stole a Tiger pass and passed to Jim Wolf for the final two points
in the Iowa Conference finale.
The Midlands Conference crown was annexed as St. Norbert's
was dethrowned, 86-71; Cannady and Seekamp once again riding
high with 32 and 23 counters.
Coach Duax's crew finished with an 11-1 record in the Iowa
Conference Southern Division which entitled them to play the
North Division winner, Loras, for the championship.
Bettendorf High gym was the scene of an 89-87 overtime conquest of Loras. Big Bob Cannady scored nine points in the all-
important overtime for the victory. He notched 38 points to tie
his own school record. Capt. Seekamp tossed home 19 points for
runner-up honors in the scoring ledger. Some last-minute heroics
by Bill Crowley, sophomore guard from Milwaukee, went unnoticed
when the Duhawks sent the contest into an overtime with a last
second basket. Crowley scored five points in the last 30 seconds
of play.
Loras once again was the opponent of the Ambrose five, this time
in the N.A.I.A. playoff. The winner of the playoff was entitled
to play in Kansas City for the championship of the country's
small colleges.
As the story goes, Coach Duax and his boys were tired of playing
around with the Duhawks, so they proceeded to trim their wings,
