Description
This year's mens basketball team found a
familiar face on the sidelines. Leo Kilfoy took
over helm for the Bees after being there once
before. Coach Kilfoy was also fortunate enough
to grab his 100th varsity basketball victory
while coaching at St. Ambrose. Kilfoy described
this year's team as good shooters, but lazy at
times on defense. But he went on to say that he
was proud of the team, and stated that the team
represented themselves and the school well.
Senior co-captains Ray Shovlain and Bill Sae-
lens finished out four year careers at St. Ambrose. Ray, from Clinton, Iowa led the team in
assists and was voted most valuable player and
best defensive player. Bill, from Rock Island was
one of the leading rebounders and finished the
year with a near 10 point scoring average.
Steve Smithers, the Bees leading scorer, was also
honored at the Awards Banquet, as he was
voted to be the best offensive player. Jim Morris
and Marty Smith were both voted as the most
improved players.
