Oktoberfest
A TOUCH OF GERMAN TRADITION AT SAINT AMBROSE
Lotsa beer, brats, music, fun and students made the 4th
annual Oktoberfest a truly festive occasion.
Held during the last weekend in September, it had the
largest student turnout of any event. Timmerman Field, as
well as the 500 students in attendance, survived the Oktoberfest.
The Mighty Joe Young Band, a blues act from Chicago
headlined the entertainment. Also helping the party out was
Sneaky Feelin', one of the best area bands around. Walt Jenkins, a "folksinger" from St. Louis lended his talents both
nights .
Bruce Johnson, a junior, organized the event for the second
year in a row. The fun started Friday evening, but a few brief
showers apparently swayed many people from turning out.
Chilly weather on Saturday afternoon cut down attendance
for the polka band, Freddie's Dutchman, from Davenport.
By the time Joe Young came on stage Saturday evening, the crowd was ready to boogie till the cows came home, and
that's exactly what they did.
