Msgr. Burke, Mr. Schulte.
Highlighting the post-war building program at St. Ambrose will be the erection of
a new $300,000.00 chapel. Tentative plans
call for the building site to be just west of
Lewis Hall. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ambrose J.
Burke announced that the work will start on the
new chapel some time in late 1950.
The general committee appointed includes:
The Most Rev. Ralph L. Hayes, Bishop of Davenport, chairman; The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Martin
Cone, V.G., pastor of Sacred Heart Cathedral,
Davenport; The Rt. Rev. Msgr. C. H. Meinberg,
pastor of St. Mary's Church, Iowa City; The
Rt. Rev. Msgr. William B. Schmidt, pastor of
St. Mary's Church, Ft. Madison, Iowa.
Edward A. Schulte, Cincinnati, Ohio, recognized authority on ecclesiastical architecture,
has been appointed achitect for the project.
Schulte, who has met with the general
committee, was chosen from among 17 architects who asked for consideration. He has been
responsible for many important church structures throughout the country.

Standing: Fr. Coleman, Fr. Rohret, Msgr. Schmidt, Msgr. Cone, Msgr. Meinberg, Fr. Elbers.
