"The theme of Exile in American Fiction" A born story teller and a novelist of Promise, Jesse Hill Ford is a native of Troy, Alabama. A Korean War veteran, he received his education at Vanderbilt and the University of Florida. His first novel, Mountains of Gilead, was published in 1959. A frequent contributor to Atlantic, he also had written for CBS-TV Workshop and the Vanderbilt University Theatre. His second novel, The Liberation of Lord Byron Jones, was a Book-of-the-Month selection. Its theme--man's eternal search for justice--is played out against the violent background of the modern South. Jesse Hill Ford "The Higher Patriotism" Elected to the United States Senate in 1962, Senator McGovern is the author of War Against Want and Agricultural Thought in the Twentieth Century, as well as numerous articles in leading journals. He holds a Ph.D. in history and government from Northwestern and serves as professor at Dakota Wesleyan University. As a U.S. delegate to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Conference in 1961, he made the United States offer which led to the first World Food Program. he was the U.S. delegate to the NATO Parliamentarians Conference in 1958 and 1959. He was named Food for Peace Director and Special Assistant to President Kennedy in 1961. The Senator won the Distinguished Flying Cross for his 35 missions as a B-24 pilot in WWII.
