Description

THE Holidays of 1918 witnessed the ordination of five former
students of St. Ambrose to the sacred priesthood. These
zealous young priests, Rev. Lawrence Murphy, '15; Rev.
James Welch, '15; Rev. Edward Neuzil, '15; Rev. Chas. Van
Waus, '15; Rev. John Mickalek, '13; are stationed respectively
at St. Anthony's, Davenport; Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport ; St. Ambrose College, Davenport; St. Weuceslaus, Iowa City; and St.
Mary's Solon, Iowa. William Schmidt, '16, who has been pursuing a course
in Sacred Theology at Kenrick Seminary, Webster Groves, Missouri, is to be
ordained to the priesthood in June.
Paul Kleiftfelder and Hubert Thoman of the Class of '16, are to be
ordained some time in the Fall. Mell Morrin, a member of the same class,
was to have been ordained at that time, but he generously came to the assistance of his Alma Mater, when her lay teachers were called to arms, and
during the Autumn months of 1918 did a great deal for the Commercial
Department. His ordination is therefore delayed. All of these young men
are at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Maryland.
Raymond Beecher, Patrick McGuiness and David Murphy of the
Class of '17, are in their second year of Theology at St. Mary's Seminary,
Baltimore, Maryland.
Peter Bissen, '17, is spending his second year at St. Francis Seminary,
St. Francis, Wisconsin.
George Millett, '17, who was at St. Mary's Seminary, was forced by
sickness to discontinue his studies. He is at home at Ottumwa, Iowa.
James Morrin, '17, is also at his home in Williamsburg, Iowa.
Anthony Jaeger, Edward O'Conner, Francis Griffith, James Garrity,
Rigobert Heliweg, George Voltz, and Louis Rohret of the Class of 1918,
one of the largest their Alma Mater has ever turned out, are at St. Mary's
Seminary. In all St. Ambrose has thirteen of her finished students at this
great Seminary, which has turned out so many great men for the Church.
Aloysius Cone, Raymond Kinnavey and John Gerwe of the Academic
Class of 1916 are to receive their A. B. degree in June. Francis Simons,
Academic, 1914, is also a member of the Senior Class.
Joseph Wagner, John Collins, Henry Overberg, and Aloysius Rempe,
Academic graduates of 1917, are pursuing their College studies at St.
Ambrose.
