Description

ALL things come to him who waits. So it is that after several
years spent in the Preparatory and Academic literary societies the day arrives when the Ambrosian becomes a dignified
Philosopher. At the same time the gates of the exclusive
Manning Club are opened; and he is admitted to membership
in this society. The purpose of the club is to promote good
fellowship among its own members, fluency in debate, and to boost the College. Its members are the Senior and Junior students of Philosophy.
This year when the club reassembled, Mr. Aloysius Cone was elected
president, Mr. Joseph Wagner, vice-president, and Mr. Paul Moore secretary. It was found during the course of the year that the club could not
take care of all its business under the old constitution. After some debate
the old document was rejected and a committee appointed to draft a new
constitution that could serve as a permanent guide for future Manning
Clubs. At the same time the question of admitting all men pursuing
college work to membership in the club was brought up. But the prevailing sentiment of the members was against the proposed change. *' .;
The meetings this spring were enlivened by the discussion of two
topics which brought out some very divergent views. Constitutional Prohibition and the; League of Nations were found to have their opponents as
well as their advocates among us. At the present time there are no meetings of the club; but the members are not all idle. The contenders for the
annual Oratorical Contest are chosen from the Manning Club; and now
four of our members are preparing for this contest.
The day is almost here when part of our number will graduate and
leave St. Ambrose. Those of us that are to remain view their departure
with regret. But at the same time we wish them success and the blessing
of God on their work; and we hope that we will all be united again in the
near future.
