Description

Junior Baseball
When the Junior baseball team takes the field six new faces will appear in Junior
uniforms, at the various stations on the diamond. "Bud" Coughlin will again appear
in a Junior uniform for the last time. "Dukes" Powers and George Moos will also
don the Junior uniforms once more and it is around these three men that Father
Adrian must build up his new team. The absence of O'Donnell, Woeber, Lawlor,
and Phelan will be keenly felt, but many of last year's Midgets are ready to step into
Junior uniforms and take the place of their departed mates.
Due to the fact that the public high schools in this vicinity do not put out representative baseball nines Father Adrian encounters a tough proposition in scheduling games.
However, a hard schedule is being arranged with the various semi-pro teams around
the Tri-Cities and vicinity and a number of spirited battles are looked for.
Last year the Juniors placed a good team on the field. They met all comers and it
was very seldom that defeat came their way. They defeated Lyons, the fast Palmer
School organization, the Sunday Morning Club, and many other teams of note, while
the only defeats registered against them were administered by the North Harrison
Street Boosters and one game by the Palmer School. Both of these teams were composed of full-grown men, many of whom are now playing organized baseball. Their
willingness to play such teams as these shows the spirit in which the Juniors entered
the game.
"Dukes" Powers, star twirler of last year's nine, displayed his ability as a pitcher
when he held the North Harrison Street Boosters hitless for five innings and struck
out nine men. When we stop to consider the fact that the North Harrison Street
Boosters were city champions the year before and playing the Juniors with practically
the same team, "Dukes' " work was little less than marvelous. The fact that he is
again in the box this year makes the prospects much rosier and the outlook brighter.
