Description
Senior Academic Poem.
We stand at the time of parting,
A class of hopeful years,
At the eve of life's commencement,
With its sorrows, joys and fears.
But "Courage" is our motto,
A watchword wTe shall keep;
Amid life's daily struggles
Success we'll surely reap.
Bright memories gather 'round us
Of school life's joyous days,
Which always were so pleasant,
Ere the "Parting of the Ways."
And though tomorrow's dawning
Will mark divided ways,
We'll launch our bark with "Courage"
At the thought of bygone days.
Through every room and hallway
Our bell this morning rang,
Its tune was that of sadness,
"Farewell" to us it sang.
On other days we gladly
Obeyed its gentle call,
Today its echoes linger
Within the hearts of all.
These days will hover 'round us
Like glittering stars on high,
They'll bring before us maxims
That here were ever nigh.
Dim shadows of the future
Now cross our vision far,
They'll brighten into sunshine
When "We have crossed the bar."
Could memory change the dial
Of Time's encircling sun,
Then might our hearts be quiet
'Mid trophies justly won.
O, Alma Mater, truly
Thy years of anxious care
Will ever prove a blessing,
A gift beyond compare.
St. Ambrose, Alma Mater,
Thy chosen seventeen claim;
We pledge our life's devotion
To thy magnetic name!
