Description

Senior Prophecy.
Come, gentle muse, I pray,
To the future tune thy lay;
Let thy song be not of flowers,
Nor of spring or summer bowers.
Tell us of the distant years,
Of their laughter and their tears,
Of their sunshine and their gladness,
And, for truth's sake, of their sadness.
The class of nineteen thirteen
Waits thy prophetic lyre,
Portel, Callahan, Lawlor,
Coughlin, Michalek, Meyer.
Speak! Muse! What fate awaits them
In days that are to be,
Success and fame, or failure,
Of wealth or poverty?
- The captain of the football team,
('Tis nineteen thirty-three)
Is fighting hard for the souls of men,
Another Paul is he.
Not now for flimsy prize that fades
His manly strength is spent,
But toward a crown, immortal, fair,
His energies are bent.
"Report to Father Coughlin, you!"
I hear a prefect say;
For Joe has charge of discipline,
At S. A. C. today.
Ah! woe to him who breaks a rule
At dear old S. A. C,
For Father Coughlin sure is there
To see what he can see.
