Description

October
2-Extra fine dinner today. Must be somebody's birthday.
3-The "movies" start. Bishop Davis is present and gives a short talk on his
trip to Rome and the difficulties in getting away from war-stricken Europe.
4-Peace Sunday, everybody—even Light—seems religious.
5-Fr. Barry furious because his Latin class refuses to study. They all seem to
take delight in loafing.
8-"Red" Light and Archie Gaffney break record for holding down "boulevard."
9-Chauncey Ruhl amuses Latin class by trying to decline numquam.
10-Lagomarcino and Lee almost reach record held by Gaffney and Light.
12-Hubert Thomann was awakened this morning by the "call-boy." His toe was
pulled a little out of joint.
14-"Liz" Welsh pulls a new excuse for missing chapel, he said: "I really don't
know what was the matter, something so unusual; just as I was going to get
up (at the last bell, of course) I suddenly felt weak, and realizing that I was
sick went back to sleep." He was awakened by the M. D., but got by on condition that the next excuse be not quite so original.
16-L. J. Murphy claims to have perfected an automatic tooth-pick for false-
teeth. *
17-Fr. O'Sullivan organizes a class in Gaelic.
20-"Lago" leaves us suddenly. He was so careless as to leave a lighted pipe
on the window sill in his room, and quit rather than fall so low as to spend
a few weeks with his friends in the study-hall.
21-"Jew" Shields, in elocution, speaks "The Face on the Bar-room Floor" with
much feeling.
22-"Red" Light promised a quarter if he can keep off the "boulevard" for a
week.
23-Father O'Sullivan and Father Lawler move into new quarters.
25-Not low Sunday but "slow" Sunday. "Lit" Societies organize.
27-Al. Cone writes some poems which seem to amuse the Latin study-hall.
28-Fay Nagle visits old friends at S. A. C.
29-Father Takkenburg confiscates chewing gum from members of the physics
class to plug up outlet of pressure tank.
31-Some one threw snuff in Latin study-hall which causes some commotion.
Blacklist prevents a few from attending Davenport-Clinton foot-ball game.
Many lose their pies and deserts for several weeks to come.
