Tennis Tournament
IN INTERESTING event in the athletic circles was the Annual Tennis Tournament, which took place this year on the west court.
Burke and L. Murphy were the principals in the first semi-final, two straight
going to the former with the scores 6-3, 6-2. Murphy consistently ran in on his
service, killing many returns. Burke's inability to manage an undeveloped back
hand stroke lost him many a game. In the second semi-final Frazier met and defeated McLoughlin, the scores were 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Frazier lobbed to advantage while speed lost for McLoughlin. Frazier's cut service was a feature.
In the finals between Murphy and Frazier, many new tricks were displayed.
During the preliminaries each had watched the service and returns of the other,
only to increase the desire to meet as the Tournament proceeded. Murphy was
quick to place side line drives out of reach of his opponent while Frazier was
good at lobbing as before. The puzzle of Frazier's overhead cut service was soon
solved by Murphy. Final scores were 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The schedule follows:
