Description
The College Orchestra
BACK IN THE early '90s an organization, called by the boys the
"College Orchestra," was started by Edward Henneberry, and
soon developed into a sine qua non for St. Ambrose. Since that
time there has been ample talent in the musical line and the
Orchestra seems to improve each year. A little encouragement
and appreciation had the happy effect of producing an enthusiastic interest among the students and they were determined as
far as they were able to make this organization reflect great credit on their Alma Mater. The Orchestra for this year has not fallen below the high standard set by the musicians of former days. Professor Paarman is still the instructor
and Mr. James Welsh successfully closes his second year as student leader. This
is Mr. Welsh's last year at St. Ambrose and his loss next year will be especially
felt and regretted by the Orchestra as well as by the other musical clubs.
Some of the selections that received the greatest applause were "The Beggar
Student," "Rhinefels Overture," "A Creole Serenade," and "Cupid's Pleadings."
