Description
"A Class Boast"
A class of boys, five years ago,
Arrived at S. A. C,
And from the first their wisdom shone
With wondrous brilliancy.
These gifted boys worked hard, indeed;
They studied late at night;
To deck themselves with honors won,
They deemed a keen delight.
In Latin, Greek, Astronomy,
Or whatso'er you please,
Though abstruse and deep the questions were,
They answered them with ease.
Full many a game of basket-ball,
Football, and baseball, too,
Was seized from the hands of sad defeat
By the members of this crew.
And when fair graduation came,
With her smiles, and tears as well,
Of the glory heaped upon their names
It would take too long to tell.
But alas! when last September,
We met at the College gate,
From this class so famed and distinguished,
There assembled only eight.
Doubt not, dear friends, when we depart,
To heaven we shall go,
'Mongst brightest angels you shall see
Our halos' brilliant glow.
Then these will answer, "Adsum,"
When St. Peter asks, "Who's here?"
McGrath, Volz, Morrow, Hellweg, Wolfe,
O'Connor, Griffith, Wehr.
To you, indulgent reader, this
May seem an idle boast;
But to Collegiate Freshmen, it's
An after-dinner toast.
