Description

The Senior's Farewell
I stand tonight within thy silent hall,
Where but yesterday all was gay and bright;
The moonbeams thru the mighty oak trees fall
And softly touch thy walls with mystic light.
The southern breeze steals softly thru the grove
Of mighty oaks, surrounding classic halls;
And stirs up tender memories interwove
With hopes to be fulfilled without thy walls.
0! Alma Mater, tender, kind, and true,
Tho' far away the goal has seemed ofttime;
Thou never hast thy kindly help withdrew
When heights of knowledge seem'd too steep to climb.
In future years, when far away, for thee
My loyal heart shall never cease to beat;
And never shall it free from mem'ries be,
Tho' classmates I may never chance to meet.
I think of all the days I spent in thee>
Studious hours with play and prayer entwined;
The times now past and never more to be,
For now farewell to thee and friends most kind.
