Description

Much credit is also due to the second team, who worked so faithfully during the season in order that St. Ambrose should turn out a
winning team. Among those on the second squad were such men as:
Michalek, "Ty" Cobb Gallagher, "Toots" Murphy, Bongers, "Bill"
Schmidt, "Jew" Shields, Shay, J. Coughlin, "Micky" Z. Cash and Fitz-
patrick.
The College Baseball League.
In the beginning of the baseball season, a baseball league was
formed, consisting of four teams. Fifteen games were scheduled for
each team, but, due to the lack of time, the full schedule was not
played. The rivalry between the teams created much interest among
the students and caused the time to pass by rapidly. Every free afternoon a league game was scheduled and very often two games were
played on the same day.
The teams composing the league and their respective captains
were as follows:
Red Sox John Cash, Captain
Athletics John Michalek, Captain
Tigers "Ty" Cobb, Captain
Cubs "Steve" Bongers, Captain
The final standing of the league, though the schedule remained
unfinished, was as follows:
Team Won Lost P. Ct.
Tigers 8 6 .571
Red Sox 8 7 .533
Athletics 7 7 .500
Cubs 6 9 .400
The Coming Season.
The prospects for a successful season are very good. Four old
veterans are back, Hynes, Lew, McGinnis and Murphy, and there are
also several of last year's reserves back at school, who ought to make
good. Under the new athletic management a good schedule is assured.
