UNDER the able management of Rev. Father O'Neill
and the efficient coaching of Walter M. Davis, the
baseball season of nineteen thirteen was a succesful
one. With seven veterans of the diamond back:
Portel, Hynes, L. J. Murphy, McGinnis, Crowley,
"Shanks" Lew and Wadle, and an abundance of new
material to pick from, Coach Davis started in the
beginning of the season, as soon as the weather permitted, to work
faithfully toward the making of a fast and winning team. The candidates for the College team worked diligently and the positions were
filled only after a severe test of all aspirants.
The success of the season reflects much credit on the work of
Coach Davis, who has directed the efforts of the College team for the
past several seasons. The squad worked faithfully under his competent instruction. Cletus Portel was chosen as captain of the team.
He fulfilled his duty faithfully and instilled in the members of his
team that "all together" spirit so necessary for the success of all
