Description

to the numerous activities we were called on to share. We were
prominently connected with dramatics and creditably associated with
literary and debating clubs; we were ably represented in the "gym,"
on the diamond, and on the "gridiron," thus neglecting no field of
endeavor.
The fourth year was a kind of climax, being remembered by all
of us as a time of happiest days and glorious achievements. Despite
the fact that only seven of the previous year's Academic graduates
returned, the class motto, "Non scholae sed vitae," was in every sense
the ruling spirit of those who remained.
And now in our Junior year there are but five of us left to continue the good work. We are standing shoulder to shoulder, moving
upward and onward as one man. New men have come in to join us
and have entered with wonderful rapidity into the spirit of the class.
Among these Edward Neuzil is a welcome addition, his record thus
far promising great things for the future. L. J. Murphy continues to
win us new laurels in athletics, building up an unparalleled record by
his marvelous feats in college baseball. James Welsh, the hopefully
persevering leader of the orchestra, by his competent and able direction of this body, has reflected no small credit on his classmates, while
Charles Van Waus, whose tremendous industry has gained him prominence in many things, still contributes materially to the success of the
Senior Literary and Debating Society. In short, our class has grown
into a lusty hardihood, has done things and made a record of which
we may pardonably be proud. Away from our Alma Mater, and out
in the busy world, the recollections of these years of pleasant study
and genial companionship will often be a consolation and a joy. Our
College will ever be to us a cherished place "where sweet memories of
the past shall slumber in a grove of oaks, but waken at the sound of a
clanging bell to smile us pleasant welcome home!"
