Description

Okay Jeff, you've got one page left and Mary and Nancy said you have to write something, but what? Hmm . . . I could talk about the staff; lets see . . . Well, the yearbook is just about finished; I can't believe it. Looking back over the past hectic months a rare collection of thought comes to my mind . . . deadlines, skipped classes, layouts, lost negatives . . . bitching sessions . . . But if you see our aches and pains bound into the pages of this book, you will see our good times reflected even stronger. We had a great staff. And with you help as well, we think we have captured St. Ambrose as never before, We hope so. After all. This is You and we want you to remember it someday as clear and good as it was "back then".
Hold it Jeff - this sounds a little too kokey. Well then what can I talk about? Listen Jeff, why no do what you do best - try a little philosophical B.S. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. . . Nah. Nah . . . Thats not right . . . yawn . . . well . . . This is what I've discovered in my years at St. Ambrose. When spring comes and the caps and gowns go on, there are three types of people who leave this school.
The first is Alfred, a man of letters shall we say? (pretty good huh?) This graduate is an extreme case of "burning the midnight oil" he's traded his entire four years at Ambrose for a handful of bight shiny A's. He's probably holding onto that diploma pretty tightly, because that's all St. Ambrose has given to him.
Sitting next to Alfread, (though they propably don't know eachother) is Penelope. Her folks have paid a high price to have her babysat. She's hit every party of the year and she can drink her buddies under the table any night of the week. She has great times to remember, but now the party's over. It's hard to get a job without a mind.
To the third of the group - and that is most of you, I think - I award that Homeric Button of Achievement. These graduates have blossomed into sound, well-rounded REAL PEOPLE. They have the polish of students who have laughed and learned congruently. It's a special talent. It will get them thru life.
So you see. St. Ambrose isn't just 5 days of classes and then home for the weekend. It isn't just WEEKEND without the 5 days of classes wither. St. Ambrose is a complete adventure. Underclassmen: Don't just go to class in a few buildings at 518 W. Locust St. Earn more than a $12,000 piece of paper. Become a living part of St. Ambrose. You owe it to yourself and remember . . . "Anything worth having is worth working for."
Wait a minute, Jeff I think that is a little too much B.S. Oh, well, I'll do it tomorrow.
200 Thanks Lerchie.
