In the beginning it is quiet and still warm.
Green oak leaves shelter St. Ambrose from the
too blue sky. Crab grass fills in the barren short
cuts. The college looks refreshed, ready once
again for the perennial onslaught. A blue Pon-
tiac with Illinois plates pulls slowly into the
South Hall parking lot. A slender young girl
begins carrying arm loads of coat-hangered
clothes into the dorm. Her eyes are bright but
anxious. Her mother looks worried. Somewhere
in Bettendorf another mother yells up the
stairs, "Bob, at two o'clock orientation begins!"
It's lazy August. School begins.
In the business and registrar's offices long registration lines tie knots in ... the roar of 'Takin'
Care of Business' at a crowded Danceland. The
bookstore cash register runs out of tape ... as
football players return from the nurse's office
. . locked up . . . the Chapel is quiet. Confessionals store unused hymnals. Everybody in is
the Union talking people out of their milk and
beer money. The Third World Hunger fund lassoes 1200 dollars. Oak leaves brush one another
making sounds of .. . "telephone for ..." ...
Yahweh! The biology department misses Dr.
Vinje and the business department misses . .
"The point is, more required hours may mean a
better ..." SGA listens to off-campus arguments for representation and remains ... in the
laundry room, a junior from Fort Madison empties his dirty jeans into a washer only to find the
change machine is out of ... the picutre is one
of students and professors working together in a
stimulating ... atmosphere of the Pub is improved with paneling, wall designs, and . .
smiling faces, shinning eyes eat bagels, harrass
waitresses .. in the president's office, Dr. Bak-
row builds the fund to 1.8 million, a refreshing
change from former financial . . Dark. A single
spotlight on John Kuta as Buffalo Bill. Relentlessly, the tension builds between the Red Man
and the careless . .. spiker takes up residence in
a mail box. A sophomore views it with interest.
"She's saying, 'What a bore that blockhead
