Description

A Sign of the Times
Casey: "You seem to be very fond of jazz music, Mr. Lew."
T. Lew: "Yes, I like it best of all. You don't have to put on formal attire when
you listen to it; nobody asks you who wrote it; and you don't have to pretend to
understand it."
Anxiety
Sheppard (preparing himself for orchestra before college play) : "These occasions
always cause me much anxiety and pain."
Coryn: "You don't mean it."
Sheppard: "I do. It's such a difficult thing to know which tie to wear and what
scent powder to use. I wish the ladies wouldn't come; I dislike very much to leave a
poor impression."
Stranger Than Fiction
Prefect: "The evidence shows that you threw something at Stahl."
H. O'Neil: "It shows more than that*. It shows I hit him."
Sill: "It took considerable time and effort to convince Coyle that I was right."
Phillips: "You succeeded, though."
Sill: "Yes, but he has not spoken to me since."
No Wonder
Flynn: "What's the matter with Fr. Barry?"
Volz: "Shocked. O'Connor knew his Civics lesson.'
Vander Vennet: "I am a self-made man."
Vermullen: "Who interrupted you?"
Clear Vision
Bruhn: "I hate to be looking at the girls through these curtains."
Donnegan: "So do I; I'm for open countenances."
