1971 Yearbook
Description
an empty classroom
forty-six staring chairs before me—
laughing as they share thoughts of all the
lives they've really held—
All there holding up their one arm
snickering at my studious pain with
eyes closed tight and lips pressed
that their laughing will not spoil the game.
All are shining and a few have scars
to show how long they've played the game
And some are, like people, more stable than
others and some of the others have no name.
I wonder what education they have?
Having sat for audit or credit I
cannot tell,
But a few in the front look smart as hell
and if given another arm would suffice to do
More than half as well as me.
