Description

There is a tendency in most to believe that the St. Ambrose-Community relationship is a one-way affair. It is
true to an extent that our college life is dependent on the
town for a number of things.
The most notable would be recreation. Practically all students are familiar with the bowling alleys, pool halls,
theatres, and restaurants.
More materially, the students depend upon the town
businesses for food, clothes, and other necessities.
For many students to meet these and their college expenses,
the community serves them again by means of employment.
So it therefore appears that the life of St. Ambrose is
materially connected to the community.
But in return St. Ambrose culturally serves the community.
Since the early years of the College's formation, many
courses at the college have been open to the community.
In recent years the college has started offering the lecture
series which also is open to the public.
It is therefore apparent that St. Ambrose is part of the
community and the community is part of St. Ambrose;
that St. Ambrose is growing because of the community
and the community is growing because of St. Ambrose.
