ALUMNI AWARDS
The Alumni Association of St. Ambrose College conferred honors
on twelve persons at the annual Homecoming Awards Luncheon. This is
a traditional part of the Weekend. Dr. John H. McDonnell of Rock Falls,
Illinois, retiring president, made the presentations.
Dr. Don R. Carmody, a 1934 graduate of St. Ambrose College, is
Overseas Technical Manager of Petrochemicals for the American International Oil Company and is now working in Switzerland.
The Rev. E. M. Catich, 1934 graduate, internationally known priest
artist of St. Ambrose, is chairman of the art department and publisher of
the widely acclaimed "Trajan Inscription in Rome."
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. William J. Cleary, graduate of St. Viators College,
has been the pastor of St. Anne's Church, East Moline since its origination
in 1919.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Newman Flanagan, a 1919 graduate of St. Ambrose
College, is the pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Maurice Dingman, a 1936 graduate of St. Ambrose
College, is Chancellor of the Diocese of Davenport.
Dr. Walter E. Foley, Sr., a 1912 graduate of St. Ambrose College,
has been a close associate of the college since his undergraduate days.
He opened his medical practice in Davenport in 1915 and continues his
practice actively.
Mr. J. Frank Gordon, a graduate of Iowa State University, has been
president of the Gordon Printing Co. since 1925.
Mr. John de Paul Hansen, a 1939 graduate of St. Ambrose College,
has been president of the Monticello Life Insurance Company of Chicago
since 1960.
Attorney Matthew W. Hart, a 1934 graduate of St. Ambrose College,
is a lecturer in economics and business administration at St. Ambrose
College. He has practiced law in the City for twenty-five years.
Mr. Richard Hollembaek, a 1950 graduate of St. Ambrose College,
is account executive in the special accounts division of the Allstate
Insurance Company.
Mr. Oscar Mayer, a 1909 graduate of Harvard University, has been
president of the Oscar Mayer & Co. meat processing business since 1928
and Chairman of the Board since 1955.
The Honorable Edward J. McManus, graduate of the State University
of Iowa, former lieutenant governor of Iowa and a 1960 gubernatorial
candidate, is now the U. S. Federal Judge for the state's Northern District.
