Description

Importance of S.A.C.
expressed by
Mayor Ray T. O'Brien

College is that delightful period
in one's maturing process during
which one experiences the excitement of learning. Although the campus is the core of a student's life, the
community provides additional laboratories (cultural, social, scientific)
as well as a variety of entertainment.
S.A.C. and Davenport have prospered, each assisting the other. Local
industry and the professions have
drawn heavily from Ambrose graduates.
The Public Museum, Art Gallery
and the City Schools provide superb
laboratories for observation and
supervised training. Professional experience is given to students through
participation with the Tri-City Symphony and drama organizations.
The community comes to the
campus for the services of the College Testing Bureau, and to attend
the Lecture Series, the performances
of the drama and music departments,
and the athletic events.
The cooperation of "town
and gown" is
expressed by
the Honorable Ray T.
O'Brien, Mayor
of Davenport,
in the following paragraph:
"A college in a community of any
size has a place of tremendous importance. This is very true of St Ambrose College and its place in the
City of Davenport. The many contributions made by the College to
our community and to our city, itself, are too numerous to enumerate
here, as well as many fringe or incidental benefits could be easily
overlooked. However, it is most
pleasing to note that it is not only
my opinion, but the feelings of so
many individuals, businesses and organizations that St. Ambrose College
offers so much to so many in the entire area — the greatest of which is
knowledge. St. Ambrose College is
a solid, firmly established institution
of many years standing in this community's history, nearly as old as the
City of Davenport. We know it will
continue to be recognized for many,
many years, constantly contributing
to the culture of our community."
