Dr. Einstein, My Inner Advisor #1

Dale Phelps is a retired orthopedic surgeon who went back to school at the University of Northern Iowa to obtain a BFA in printmaking after retirement. He was raised in Waterloo, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa for both his BA and MD degrees. He practiced orthopedics for 28 years in Waterloo, Iowa.<br>Towards the end of his career he started taking classes part time at the University of Northern Iowa, Department of Art. In December of 2005 he graduated with a BFA in printmaking.

He says this about his work:"This are part of my series concerning visualization during meditation for the treatment of cancer. I have been living with prostate cancer since 1993 but it has recently increased its activity. Along with traditional medical treatments I have been utilizing guided imagery in meditation. I produced these images to help me with visualization during imaging. With this and other modalities I have brought my cancer under reasonable control."
