Description

A familiar sight as Bee defenders swarm over Missouri
Valley halfback.
ST. AMBROSE 46 — MISSOURI VALLEY 0
The Bees opened their home schedule in
high fashion by romping over Missouri Valley,
46-0, on Sept. 28.
Bob Webb completed 12 passes in 21 at-
tempts for 256 yards and a new school record
for yards gained by passing in one game. On
the receiving end of Webb's passes were Clint
Westemeyer and Smoke Michalski, St. Am-
brose's two fine ends. Leaders in the Bees'
ground attack were Jerry Gerhart with 56
yards, Tom Heaiy with 50, and Joe Jones with
43.
After a scoreless first period, the St. Am-
brose offense began to click. Bee halfback Bob
Varley scored from the five yard line for TD
number one. A few plays later, Michalski
picked up number two on a 71 yard pass from
Webb. Gerhart counted the third on a 29 yard
scramble, and Joe DeSoto went five yards for
the fourth. Greg Sharko and Bob Flaa con-
verted the last two extra points to make the
halftime score 26-0.
St. Ambrose got its first third period touch-
down on a nine yard Webb to Westemeyer
aerial to make the score 32-0. Also in the same
period, Jones shot through for six points from
one yard out. Sharko converted.
The Bees ended the scoring in the fourth
quarter when Mark McGowan, reserve quar-
terback, scored from around left end on a
19-yard sprint—converting the extra point
himself — leaving the final score 46-0.
