Every coach has a trick up his
sleeve when he meets a tough opponent. Coach Larry "Moon" Mul-
lins proved to be no exception
when his Bee eleven trounced the
Purple and Grey battlers from St.
Thomas college here at O'Shaugh-
nessy stadium Sunday afternoon by
a score of 26-6.
Mullins* surprise for the Tommies was a powerful seven-man
line which smothered the Purple
and Grey passers.
Main passer for the hosts was
Glen Thommes. Thommes failed
to complete a pass in the entire
first half.
Out of the 25 attempts at passing, only four fell into the arms
of Tommy receivers for a total of
42 V^f/TflS Another three were intercepted by alert Ambrosians.
Two of these interceptions were
turned into St. Ambrose touchdowns, one on a direct runback by
Dick Zielinski. The other set up
a Bee score.
CARROLL GOES OVER.
St. Ambrose made its first scoring move when the game was 10
minutes old. The Bees inaugurated
an 84-yard touchdown march
from their own 11-yard line at
that point. The drive included
four first downs with Pat Carroll
providing the crucial punch.
It was Carroll who romped over
from 15 yards out with Dirk
Forbes throwing the key block on
the St. Thomas safety man.
After the touchdown march, St.
Ambrose did not register another
first down until the final quarter.
Herm Miskowicz stopped a final
second threat by the St. Thorns
team in the first half as the big
Ambrosian lineman bumped Halfback Jim Brandt out of bounds on
the St. Ambrose 11-yard line. The
Tommy back was goalward bound
after a 74-yard run on a pass interception.
Dick Zielinski came up with St.
Ambrose's second touchdown early in the third quarter as the Bee
soeedster hauled in a misdirected
St. Thomas forward pass on his
own 47-yeard line and sprinted 53
yards to the end zone.
Another pass interception in the
same period set up another score.
Norb Schultz snagged a Tommy
aerial on his own 23-yard line and
galloped to the St. Thomas 25 before being chased out of bounds.
The Bees then took to- the air
themselves and a toss, Tom Gree-
nan to Ed Scheck was good for
a third touchdown. Larry Ketza
converted.
LESSMAN BLOCKS.
St. Thomas got its offense under
way at this point and after bringing the kickoff back to the 32-
yard line started a drive that was
culminated by Brandt's touchdown charge from the half-yard
line.
St. Ambrose, however, was not
content to rest on its laurels and
Wally Lessman broke thru the
Tommy defense to block a punt

alternated carrying the ball to the
one-yard line where Lee Matera
slipped over without being

The St, Ambrose line of Forbes,
Michalik, Lessman, Aguado, Riley
and Newell played outstanding
ball and Pat Carroll and Bob
Bevenour showed plenty of promise at the halfbacks.
