The bitterest loss of the season closed out the
Bees home schedule. An alert William Jewell
team inflicted the defeat, 14-12.
The visitors struck the first blow, but the Bees
came back with a pair of scores to move in front
12-7. Mitch Ware and Ken Filar sparked the
first touchdown with Ware getting the points.
Abbott threw to Michalski who lateraled to Ware
on a whirlwind play that resulted in the second
tally.
Things looked good momentarily, as the Bees
held an edge late in the game, but William Jewell
had other ideas, and the Cardinals determinedly
settled down to punch over the winning touchdown.
The loss was especially galling since it was the
last chance for seven Ambrose seniors, Mitch
Ware, Larry Zitkus, Jim Murphy, Ken Floerke,
Jim Hanrahan, Jim Delaney and Bob Durnin, to
play before the home fans, and a win was considered a "must" for these men. However, it was
generally agreed that William Jewell presented
one of the better squads to oppose the Bees in
the past few years, and the close loss was definitely
no disgrace.
