Democrats
of St. Ambrose
The Democrats Club, which was organized in 1953,
has as its purpose the educating of students in the
political field. After one complete year, it has become
one of the most active clubs on campus.
It has endeavored to accomplish its purpose by sponsoring lectures by competent men in the political field.
During the fall election, addresses were given by former
Senator Guy Gillette and by Clyde Herring, candidate
for Governor of Iowa. A precinct in Davenport was
turned over to the club in order to give members an
opportunity to take direct participation in politics.
The club sponsored a dance, a smoker, and other
social activities during the scholastic year.
The officers for the year were Patrick Cleary, President; Dick Coyle, Vice-President; Howard Sladek, Secretary; and Lewis Mirifield, Treasurer.
