The Manning Club, the only official organization on campus established exclusively for
seminarians, functions as a student council for the seminary department. All juniors and
seniors are members of the club, and its president and secretary are elected from among
these members. The activities of the club include: sponsoring the seminary department's
float in the homecoming parade, a get-together for the freshmen and newcomers to the
seminary, and entertainment like the annual Christmas variety show.
The most important activity of the club is the selection of prominent speakers, priests
and laymen, from the quad-city area to address the seminarians on subjects which are of
interest to the future priests. The speakers are heard by all the members of the ecclesiastical
department.
The Rural Life Club in the Seminary department of St. Ambrose College has consistently
been one of the most active groups on the campus for the past few years. Its purpose is
to stimulate an interest among church students so that they will be better qualified to cope
with the problems in a rural parish, if they should be assigned to a rural area. The problems of the farm people are the problems of the Church, and that is the criterion by
which the meetings are conducted.
Various interesting programs were attempted during this past school year and they were
well attended. The National Catholic Rural Life Conference, held in Davenport this year,
and the St. Ambrose Farm Institute have greatly stimulated the interest in the Club, and
the members were given the opportunity to assist in both of these worthwhile endeavors.
Monsignor Hauber and Dr. Paul Sacco are the faculty moderators.
