Pioneers Since 1872 J. H. C. PETERSEN'S SONS COMPANY Fifty Years of Service
Webster Defines a Pioneer as One Who Goes Before to Prepare the Way.—Surely
this definition applies in a very forcible manner to the steady development of this great
store, which came into existence in Davenport just 50 years ago.
Established in 1872 with only a few hundred dollars capital, beset on all sides by the
troublesome times and unsettled business conditions existing at the close of the Civil
War period, it could only live and thrive by the utmost practice of honesty and
business integrity.
Never having lost sight of these principles, which have ever been the dominating
characteristics of all pioneers who builded for the future, this Store today, after fifty
years of continuous growth, is a pioneer leading and preparing the way, and standing
in this community for all that is best in our community, state and national life—now
ready to start on another 50 years of pioneering and another 50 years of service.
DAVENPORT, IOWA
16. Kelly takes the count in battle royal. "Lena" is lauded as possible successor to
the "Flying Fish".
17. Kid Lampe, one blow and he's out. Eric gets loud as the preliminaries are run
off.
18. Louis Nieters spends a mean forenoon nursing Kid Lampe, the gladiator.
19. Jewish Christmas. No work today.
20. John Gannon startles society by informing us he is a great dancer. We've seen
you, Kid, we admit it.
21. Tony De Clerk "goes over big at Prairie du Chien."
22. Pound and a half Lew startles Platteville by asking for a 13 1/2 collar.
23. Varsity tries to miss the train at Prairie du Chien. No use, the train was late.
24. The varsity stagger forth to Winona with B. V. D.'s, silk socks and oxfords;
temperature 25 below zero. Still they didn't freeze, they were only paralyzed.
25.Eddie West startles inmates of hotel in Winona by appearing in the hall attired
in pink silk pajamas. Now, Eddie!
