CHARGE OF PROFESSIONALISM
THREE ALL-AMERICAN
CHOW-MEN CAUGHT
Their Career Ends
June—As a proof of the energetic methods which the National Eating Ass'n has adopted toward keeping the eating game
clean, the following article should
be a source of joy to the dyed-
in-the-wool eating fan.
Not long ago reports came in
to the effect that several All-
American Eaters had participated
in illegal eating. Five names
were mentioned but after a thorough investigation of the matter
only three were found guilty. It
is unnecessary to say that these
three men were immediately deprived of their amateur standing
and the Eating team was saved
from falling into an inferior position among similar organizations in their march toward scandal.
The names borne in on the evil
wind were those of 'i Eddie'' Nolan, star center, "Tubby" Malloy, famous full-back, and "Big
Boy" B'rophy, stellar end. Sad
to relate, absolute and killing
proof was unearthed against
these men.
In the little hamlet of Nichols,
Iowa, on a certain sunny day of
last August, the Young Married
Men's Needle Club, of the boiler
factory section, were making
merry. One of the chief means
of diversion was a professional
pie eating contest in which a
small, red-headed youth entered
under the name of i' Paddy Mc-
Ginnis". However, the aforesaid "Paddy" was none other
than our own Eddie Nolan, who

March—Did you notice what
the March winds brought in?
None other than the corpulent
"Tubby" Dowling of Omaha.
He held a reputation of a rip-
roaring scrapper, he said so himself and he ought to know. He
lost no time in relating his past
history as a battler, and a good
one too.
'' Tubby'' was immediately
matched with i' Mosquito Pun''
Branch, the old warhorse, for an
informal three round trial. They
fought (beg pardon, I meant
quarreled) on the cinders in the
rear of the gymnasium. There
must have been a secret agreement between the two not to hit
on the face or body, or, perhaps
they may be styled the "Phantom" fighters, as no blows were
seen to be exchanged. Referee
Hollis "Buck" Barry gave no
decision and none was necessary.
It has been suggested that the
two be placed in the same ring
against "Johnnie" Ries. However, this plan has been dropped
since the handicap would be too
great for Branch and Dowling.
