Description
The Ambrosian
DRAMATIC CLUB
Soon after the opening of the school term in September, 1921, the
Dramatic Club was reorganized by Rev. J. P. Stahl, in preparation for
the production of a school play. Unlike the previous year, the Dramatic
Club began to function early in the school year, and to put before the
public the talent embodied in it. Several new members were added to
an organization already replete with ability, and new forms and faces
appeared on the school stage to increase the fame of the Dramatic Club.
Those members of the club so fortunate as to be characters in the cast of
the first play, made the production such a success that all hoped for several plays to be staged during the first months of 1922. But all were
doomed to disappointment, for but one more play was produced and that
one just at commencement time. The absence of plays was regretted
not only by those who have learned to appreciate the superior quality
of production put on by the St. Ambrose Dramatic Club, but even more
so by those who are vitally interested in St. Ambrose, and who see that
these plays put the college and its activities before the people to create in
them interest in its welfare.
Rev. J. P. Stahl, who has sponsored the Dramatic Club ever since its
beginning, again took it in hand and labored earnestly to make the productions successful by creating a pleasing background for them. Much
credit is due him for his* work with the club in making presentations
possible.
The Dramatic Club was most fortunate this past year in having such
a talented and capable coach as Mrs. Helena B. Churchill. She has
most successfully directed the productions of the Dramatic Club for the
past few years, and none more capable than she can be found throughout
the Tri-Cities. She it is who deserves the credit for making the talented
Dramatic Club of St. Ambrose such a singular success.
May the Dramatic Club continue to function in future years, and may
it never cease to be a vital element in St. Ambrose College.
